THE CHALLENGE

Operating in both the retail and commercial sectors, 4Mation Architecture have offered a full project design service since 2003, with a focus on providing a personalised, innovate and responsive experience.

Having already needed us to pile for another large new-build house on the same road, it came as no surprise that this one would need piling as well, so 4Mation’s Director Derek picked up the phone to Rhino.

WHAT WE DID

Piling

Working to our own piling scheme based on 4Mation’s drawings, the team of Sam and Harry drove x34 150mmØ steel-cased piles to depths of between 8 – 10m, with most going to 10m or close to it. As you can see in the images, the trenches were full of water, but it didn’t stop them getting on with it and keeping the project on schedule.

Steel Ring Beam

In order to save a lot of time and space on-site, we pre-fabricated the steel ring beam in our unit first (as we always do) and then installed 93m worth on top of the piles.

Concrete

For the concrete, we chose our preferred supplier RBS Concrete, and booked another familiar face, Anthony Crossley of Crossley Concrete Pumping, to boom pump 31 cubic metres of C35. Due to the ongoing poor weather, we had to remove water from the piles first, before filling the footings, levelling and tamping.

THE OUTCOME

Like the other new-build homes we’ve piled for them, 4Mation got a perfectly levelled and finished foundation they can hand over to the next contractor. We can’t wait to see what they build on it; and one thing’s for sure, the home’s future owners will appreciate their Rhino guaranteed piled foundation when it comes to safety, longevity and insurance!
